Lord Byron Kept a Bear

When Lord Byron attended Cambridge’s Trinity College, being an animal loving kind of guy, he was irritated by the rules that wouldn’t allow him to keep a pet dog on campus. The rules were fairly specific about the animals permitted so he kept a small trained bear in his room. He looked after it well, taking it on long walks, feeding it the finest meat he could find. He even attempted to gain his furry friend a fellowship.
Byron is now one of the most popular names for tame bears.
